Data Management Specialist
Overview
The Data Management Specialist will handle data governance activities within their assigned domains. They are responsible to ensure adherence to all Enterprise Data Governance Framework practices, polices and standards within their domains. They are responsible for ensuring the required level of data consistency, quality, and protection to meet overall business needs. They have responsibility for managing data assets, data lineage and data access, supporting sound data analysis for items within their assigned domains. This role requires support for projects, programs, application enhancements and production fixes for the products and services offered in Client Benefits and Education. Effectively communicates to individuals at various levels of the technical and business communities.
Description
Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration.
Subject Matter Expert for any data governance initiatives and projects that involve any upstream or downstream data flows and processes within their assigned domains
Recommends ideas for and participates in implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to improve data management operations, socializing the ideas within and beyond the data governance working group
Coordinate the resolution of data quality issues by working with their assigned stewards, business owners and IT.
Provide assistance to other Business Units with trouble-shooting, problem solving, and root cause analysis as needed to properly identify and communicate business issues and requirements to IT.
Assist Data Stewards in interpreting and enforcing Data Governance policies relevant to their domains.
Coach assigned stewards to improve data management skillsets for their assigned domains
Execution of initiatives identified by Data Owner(s) and VP Enterprise Data Officer
Facilitate impact analysis and root cause analysis on presented issues
Support the VP Enterprise Data Officer in the analysis of existing production related processes; identifying opportunities for improvement, consolidation and automation for enhanced operational scale and efficiencies.
Monitor client data in systems for data quality issues or areas of improvement, consistent with the guidelines established by the Data Governance team, along with the IT Enterprise Architect and Data Architect.
Collaborate with Data Owners and VP Enterprise Data Officer on the policies and procedures relating to data management.
Communicate the business value of data governance efforts to colleagues.
Maintain the Metadata Management Library including the enterprise data dictionary that is aligned to data assets and the business glossary for group
Create reports and other documents supporting business specified requirements using appropriate tools.
Qualifications
6+ years in data analysis/governance, experience in production support and/oroperations, including ensuring systems and technology are properly aligned to support business requirements.
Proficient in SQL tool(s)
Knowledge of Informatica AXON/IDQ, Collibra or other Data Quality tool
Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools like Domo or Tableau preferred
Demonstrates knowledge of business functions and operational effectiveness with ability to:
Identify key areas of opportunity for enhanced operational effectiveness and gained efficiencies
Capable of performing data analysis and data mining to address operational issues or answer business questions
Able to assist with analyzing vague business requirements and turning them into actionable data requirements, business requirements, functional requirements, and test plans
Self-starter who initiates activities to address business concerns, operational deficiencies, and to support cost benefit analysis
Some understanding of best practices relating to metadata management, data quality, process design, and root cause analysis.
Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships while managing expectations.
Communicates and collaborates effectively with peers and management.
Proven ability to deliver results with minimal direction.
Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Educational Requirements
Bachelors in Data Science Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Information Systems, Information Management, Computer Science, or other related fields.
